Consiliar

Budapest advisory company

A managing director who is on site and handles the company’s affairs in Hungarian

For foreign-owned companies in Hungary, we provide a managing director or co-managing director who is registered in the company register and acts in person. For Hungarian companies, we help carry out market entry, above all in China, and also in Korea and East Africa.

Two service lines

  • Professional managing director services for foreign-owned companies

A managing director, or a co-managing director alongside the expatriate manager; change of managing director and handover; management-level compliance support. Mainly for small and medium-sized companies under Chinese ownership, and also under Korean or other foreign ownership: suppliers, subcontractors and trading companies.

  • Market entry support for Hungarian companies

China, Korea, East Africa. We pick up where the business delegation ends: market assessment, partner search and partner due diligence, accompanied business trips, local representation.

Situations in which we can help

  • The expatriate manager is leaving

Expatriate managers typically come for a fixed term of a few years. When they change, local knowledge and familiarity with pending matters are easily lost.

  • An inspection by the authorities is expected

In 2026 the authorities are visibly stricter in checking that foreign-owned manufacturers comply with occupational safety, employment and environmental rules. This has to be kept under control at management level.

  • The parent company cannot see into the Hungarian operation

The figures arrive, but the owner does not know what lies behind them: which obligations, deadlines and risks the Hungarian company carries.

  • Matters have to be handled in Hungarian

At the bank, before the authorities and in front of employees, the company needs a manager who negotiates in Hungarian, knows local practice and can sign on its behalf.

How we work

  1. First conversation

We learn about the situation and tell you whether we can help. If we cannot, we say so.

  2. Assessment

We review the company’s operations, the scope of duties and the risks. For market entry, we review the product, the target market and the resources available.

  3. Written proposal

The proposal sets out the scope of duties, the level of on-site presence, the reporting arrangements and the fee.

  4. Work and reporting

The engagement is carried out by our partners and staff, who act in person and report in writing according to arrangements agreed in advance.

Actual management, not nominee directors

Our partner acts in person in the company’s day-to-day affairs and is responsible for his or her decisions. We do not provide nominee directors who exist on paper only.

Background

Managing director engagements are carried out by our contracted partners, who act in person; our current managing director partner led a substantial Korean-owned construction company in Hungary for several years. Our market entry work is supported by a member of our team with institutional and business experience in East Africa, and by local legal partners in several African countries. Consiliar does not provide legal services: legal matters are handled by Czudar DHH Law Firm, an independent law firm, under a separate engagement.
